iPhone 14 Pro Max vs iPhone 16 Pro Max
Short answer: the iPhone 16 Pro Max is two generations newer and better in almost every way: the A18 Pro chip, a bigger 6.9 inch screen, a 48MP ultra-wide, a 5x telephoto, 4K 120fps video, a bigger 4685 mAh battery, USB-C, Camera Control and Apple Intelligence. The 14 Pro Max still has Dynamic Island, an Always-On 120Hz screen and a 48MP main camera, and costs much less as a used Non PTA phone.

Design and build
The 14 Pro Max has a stainless steel frame and weighs 240 g. The 16 Pro Max uses a grade 5 titanium frame and weighs 227 g, despite its bigger screen. Both have a textured matte glass back and IP68; the 16 Pro Max uses the latest-generation Ceramic Shield.
The 16 Pro Max is taller (163 x 77.6 mm vs 160.7 x 77.6 mm) and adds two controls: the Action button and Camera Control, a touch-sensitive button for quick photos, zoom and exposure.
Display
Both use an LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED with ProMotion (1-120Hz), Always-On display, Dynamic Island and up to 2000 nits outdoors. The 14 Pro Max is 6.7 inches at 1290 x 2796; the 16 Pro Max is 6.9 inches at 1320 x 2868, with much thinner borders.
The bigger screen is great for videos and games, while the body grows only slightly.
Performance and chipset
The 14 Pro Max uses the A16 Bionic (4 nm, 5-core GPU). The 16 Pro Max uses the A18 Pro (3 nm, 6-core GPU), designed for Apple Intelligence.
The A18 Pro is clearly faster in heavy games, 4K editing and multitasking, and has years of headroom. In daily use the 14 Pro Max still feels smooth.
Cameras
The 14 Pro Max has a 48MP main, 12MP ultra-wide and 12MP 3x telephoto. The 16 Pro Max has a 48MP Fusion main, a 48MP ultra-wide and a 12MP 5x tetraprism telephoto. Both have a 12MP front camera.
The 16 Pro Max gives sharper wide shots and macros, more zoom reach, and 4K 120fps Dolby Vision video for smooth slow motion. Both shoot ProRes. Camera Control makes quick shots easier.
Battery and charging
The 14 Pro Max has a 4323 mAh battery; the 16 Pro Max has 4685 mAh, and it was Apple's longest-lasting iPhone when launched. Both charge to about 50% in 30 minutes with a fast wired adapter. MagSafe goes up to 15W on the 14 Pro Max and up to 25W on the 16 Pro Max with a new charger, which also supports Qi2.

Software and updates
Both run current iOS in 2026, but the 16 Pro Max launched two years later and should get about two more years of major updates. It also supports Apple Intelligence, which the 14 Pro Max does not. Feature availability depends on language and region settings.
