The POCO M5 is a budget phone built around performance. Its Helio G99 is made on a 6 nm process, which means better speed and cooler running than the 12 nm Helio G85 and G88 chips that were common at the time. If you play Free Fire or PUBG on a tight budget, this is a sensible choice.
The 6.58-inch IPS LCD is Full HD+ with a 90Hz refresh rate and a small waterdrop notch. It is sharp and smooth, though colours and blacks are not as deep as AMOLED. The back has a leather-like texture that improves grip and hides fingerprints.
Cameras are basic. The 50MP main sensor is fine in daylight, the 2MP macro and depth are extras, and the 5MP selfie camera is the weakest point; it is enough for video calls but not for social-media selfies. The 5000mAh battery lasts well beyond a day, but 18W charging takes around two hours.
You also get a side fingerprint reader, a headphone jack, microSD support and Gorilla Glass 3 on the screen. It sits in Xiaomi's POCO series (POCO phones).
