Who needs 12GB RAM?
12GB is useful if you: - switch between a game, Discord, WhatsApp and a browser without wanting reloads - edit photos or short videos on the phone - plan to keep the phone for four years or more, as apps get heavier - use Samsung DeX or split-screen often
If you mostly use social media, calls and YouTube, 8GB (8GB RAM Mobiles) is enough and the money is better spent on a stronger chipset or camera.
Mid-range phones with 12GB
12GB is no longer only for flagships. The Infinix Note 40 Pro (Infinix Note 40 Pro), Infinix GT 20 Pro (Infinix GT 20 Pro), Tecno Camon 30 Pro (Tecno Camon 30 Pro 5G) and Tecno Pova 6 Pro (Tecno Pova 6 Pro) come in 12GB versions. The POCO X6 Pro (POCO X6 Pro 5G) and Redmi Note 13 Pro+ (Redmi Note 13 Pro+) also have 12GB variants. These phones pair the RAM with chips strong enough to make use of it.
For budget lists, see mobiles under 50000 (Under 50k) and mobiles under 60000 (Under 60k).
Flagships and gaming phones
Most flagships now start at 12GB. The Galaxy S24 Ultra (Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra) and S25 Ultra (Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra) use 12GB. The OnePlus 12 (OnePlus 12) and OnePlus 13 (OnePlus 13) offer 12GB and 16GB options. Gaming phones go further. The ROG Phone 8 Pro (Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro) comes with up to 24GB, and the Red Magic 9 Pro (Nubia Red Magic 9 Pro) also offers very high RAM options. The Pixel 9 Pro (Google Pixel 9 Pro) has 16GB, partly to run Google's on-device AI features.
What matters as much as RAM
RAM only helps if the rest of the phone keeps up. Check three more things on the model page: the chipset tier, the storage type (UFS 3.1 or UFS 4.0 is fast), and how many years of software updates the brand promises. Samsung and Google promise long update periods on recent flagships, which pairs well with high RAM. For gaming-specific advice, see gaming phones (Gaming Phones).
Where 12GB RAM really shows
The difference between 8GB and 12GB is easy to miss in a quick test, but it shows over time. With 12GB, switching from a long PUBG match to WhatsApp, then to Chrome and back usually brings you straight back into the game instead of reloading it. Camera apps also stay ready in the background, which helps when you take burst photos or record long videos.
On-device AI features, such as live translation, photo editing and note summaries on newer Galaxy and Pixel phones, also use more memory. That is one reason brands have moved flagships to 12GB and 16GB. If you plan to use these features, or keep your phone for a long time, 12GB is a safer long-term choice.
If you are torn between an 8GB and a 12GB variant of the same phone, look at the price gap on the model page. When the gap is small, 12GB is usually worth taking. When it is large, a stronger chip or more storage may serve you better.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 12GB RAM worth it over 8GB?
For heavy multitasking, gaming with apps in the background, or keeping a phone four years or more, yes. For normal daily use, 8GB is enough and the price difference is better spent elsewhere.
Does 16GB RAM make games run faster?
Not directly. Frame rates depend on the chipset and cooling. Extra RAM keeps more apps loaded in the background so you return to them instantly.
Does 12GB RAM include virtual RAM?
On this page we count physical RAM in the variant. Some brands add extended RAM on top. Each model page shows the real RAM figure.
Kya 12GB RAM wala phone zyada saal chalta hai?
Haan, zyada RAM se phone aane wale saalon mein bhi apps aaram se chalata hai. Lekin processor aur software updates bhi utne hi zaroori hain, is liye sirf RAM dekh kar phone na lein.
