iPhone Duo, iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra? Apple's Foldable Explained
The iPhone Duo, iPhone Fold, iPhone 18 Fold and iPhone Ultra are all the same phone: Apple's first foldable iPhone. Apple announced it as the iPhone Duo on 9 September 2026, and it went on sale on 23 October 2026. It opens like a book into a 7.6 inch screen, has a 5.4 inch cover screen, uses the A20 Pro chip and is eSIM only. This guide clears up the name confusion and explains the specs, the crease, durability, who it suits and how it compares with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold.

Why so many names?
For about two years, news sites and leakers called Apple's foldable the "iPhone Fold". Because it launched next to the iPhone 18 Pro, many people also searched "iPhone 18 Fold", "iPhone 18 Pro Fold" or "iPhone 18 foldable". Shortly before launch, reports said it might be called the "iPhone Ultra". In the end Apple named it the iPhone Duo, a name that points to its two screens.
So: - iPhone Duo: the official name - iPhone Fold, iPhone 18 Fold, iPhone Flip: old rumour names - iPhone Ultra, iPhone 18 Ultra: a pre-launch rumour name
Apple has not released any iPhone called Fold, Flip or Ultra. If a seller lists one of those names, they mean the iPhone Duo (iPhone Duo). Note that it is a book-style fold, not a flip phone like the Galaxy Z Flip.

The crease: can you see it?
Every folding phone has a fold line in the middle of the inner screen. Apple says it worked hard to hide it on the iPhone Duo, using a titanium hinge with more than 100 parts, a nano-texture layer on the screen and special adhesives. Early hands-on reports describe the crease as nearly invisible when you look straight at the screen. At an angle, or under a bright light, you may still notice it, and you can feel a soft line when you swipe across the middle. This is normal for foldables and is not a defect. When your Non PTA box pack phone arrives, open it under good light during the 7-day checking warranty to see it for yourself.
Durability: how strong is it?
The iPhone Duo has a titanium frame and hinge cover, carbon fibre support plates in the hinge, and an IP68 rating, which Apple says covers up to 6 metres of water for 30 minutes. That is better than many older foldables, which had little or no dust protection. Still, a foldable needs more care than a normal iPhone: - The inner screen has a softer top layer than glass, so avoid pressing it with nails or sharp objects - Do not remove the factory screen protector on the inner screen - Keep sand and grit away from the hinge - Use a case, because at 254g a drop hits harder - Water resistance is not permanent and becomes weaker over time
Repairs to a foldable screen cost much more than a normal iPhone screen, so careful use pays off.
Who should buy the iPhone Duo?
Good fit: - You read, watch videos or work on documents on your phone and want a small tablet in your pocket - You want two apps side by side on a larger screen - You want the newest iPhone design and are happy with eSIM
Not a good fit: - You want the best zoom camera: the iPhone 18 Pro Max (iPhone 18 Pro Max) has a 4x telephoto and the Duo does not - You want Face ID or a physical SIM - You want the longest battery and the lowest price for the power: the 18 Pro Max is cheaper and lasts longer - You are hard on phones or work in dusty places
For most buyers a Pro Max is still the safer choice. The Duo is for people who will really use the big screen.
iPhone Duo vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold
Samsung has made folding phones since 2019. Its 2026 models, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a taller Fold 8 Ultra, were shown in July 2026. The standard Z Fold 8 and the iPhone Duo are close in size: - Inner screen: both 7.6 inch - Cover screen: Duo 5.4 inch, Z Fold 8 5.5 inch - Weight: Duo 254g, Z Fold 8 about 201g, so the Samsung is much lighter - Thickness: Duo 5.2mm open and 11.3mm closed, Z Fold 8 4.5mm open and 9.7mm closed - Chip: Duo A20 Pro, Z Fold 8 Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 - Unlock: Duo has Touch ID only; Samsung has a fingerprint sensor and face unlock - SIM: Duo is eSIM only; most Samsung foldables offer a physical SIM as well - Software: Duo runs iOS 27 and works with iMessage, AirDrop and your Apple Watch; Samsung runs Android with One UI and has more multitasking tools
Choose the iPhone Duo if you already live in the Apple world. Choose a Galaxy Z Fold if you want a lighter phone, more multitasking options or a physical SIM. We currently stock the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7); see all foldable phones (Foldable Phones).
Buying the iPhone Duo in Pakistan
We sell the iPhone Duo as Non Custom / Non PTA (Box Pack): new, sealed and factory unlocked. Because it is eSIM only, you need a Pakistani operator that offers eSIM. A local SIM works for a limited time under DIRBS rules; for long-term use you register the phone and pay the PTA tax set by FBR, which is high on a phone at this price. Read PTA tax on iPhone 18 (PTA Tax on iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo in Pakistan (2026)) for the reported iPhone Duo amounts, and see all models on the iPhone 18 series (iPhone 18 Series phones) page.
Supply is limited worldwide, so stock arrives in small batches. Orders need a 30% advance, the remaining 70% is paid to the courier, there is no cash on delivery, delivery takes 48–72 hours, and each phone has a 7-day checking warranty.
