PTA Tax on iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and 17e in Pakistan (2026)
The PTA tax on the iPhone 17 series is the duty and tax FBR charges when you register the phone's IMEI in PTA's DIRBS system. 2026 reports put it at about Rs 129,000 to Rs 193,000 on a passport and Rs 154,000 to Rs 214,000 on a CNIC, depending on the model. These figures come from Pakistani news reports that follow FBR valuation rulings; FBR does not publish a simple per-model table. The exact amount is the PSID that DIRBS shows for your own IMEI. This guide lists each model, explains Non PTA, PTA approved and JV, and shows how to check.

iPhone 17 series PTA tax: reported amounts (2026)
Daily Pakistan reported revised amounts on 1 February 2026, linking them to the Directorate General of Customs Valuation's Valuation Ruling No. 2035 of 2026. Pakistan Observer carried the same figures in May 2026: - iPhone 17 (iPhone 17): about Rs 128,766 on passport and Rs 154,293 on CNIC - iPhone 17 Air (iPhone 17 Air): about Rs 151,322 on passport and Rs 175,949 on CNIC - iPhone 17 Pro (iPhone 17 Pro): about Rs 193,454 on passport and Rs 210,317 on CNIC - iPhone 17 Pro Max (iPhone 17 Pro Max): about Rs 182,710 on passport and Rs 213,631 on CNIC - iPhone 17e (iPhone 17e): no reliable figure published yet. It is priced below the other models, so expect a lower amount, and check DIRBS
Note that the reported passport amount for the 17 Pro is higher than for the 17 Pro Max. That is how the sources list it, and it shows why you should confirm on DIRBS. Earlier, at the September 2025 launch, PhoneWorld listed the 17 Pro Max at about Rs 204,954 (passport) and Rs 225,449 (CNIC), before the 2026 revision.
These are government taxes, not our prices. Our store prices do not include PTA tax. Last checked: 24 October 2026.
Why amounts differ between websites
PTA does not set the tax. FBR and Pakistan Customs set a customs value for each model and apply duty, sales tax and levies to it. Websites and calculators then use different values and exchange rates, so you will see different numbers for the same phone.
The amount can change with: - A new FBR valuation ruling for the model - The rupee-dollar rate on the day you apply - Budget changes, such as the Finance Act 2026-27 - Your filer status when registering on CNIC
All iPhone 17 models are valued above 500 US dollars, the highest band, where sales tax is a percentage of the value.
Passport vs CNIC
Passport registration is cheaper, by roughly Rs 17,000 to Rs 31,000 on the iPhone 17 models in the reported figures. It is only for a person who brings the phone in their own baggage and registers within 60 days of arrival, and travel details are checked against FIA records.
CNIC registration is for everyone else and costs more because it adds advance income tax and other charges. Do not use someone else's passport for a phone bought in Pakistan. One person can register up to five devices a year, and there is no discount for students or tax filers beyond the filer rate.
Non PTA vs PTA approved vs JV iPhone 17
- PTA approved: the IMEI is registered and tax is paid, so any Pakistani SIM works permanently
- Non PTA: an original, factory unlocked international unit that is not registered. Wi-Fi and all features work. You can pay the tax and register it later
- JV: usually a carrier-locked iPhone running on an unofficial chip or software trick. iOS updates can break it and it cannot be registered normally
Our iPhone 17 series phones are Non Custom / Non PTA (Box Pack) international units. They are not PTA approved, and PTA tax is not included in our prices. See iPhone JV vs PTA vs Non PTA (iPhone JV vs PTA vs Non PTA: What Each Term Really Means).
SIM rules for a Non PTA iPhone 17
According to the DIRBS FAQs, an unregistered phone works with a local SIM for 60 days after the SIM is first used in it. After that, network service stops and the period does not restart for the same phone.
Overseas Pakistanis and foreign visitors can use a separate temporary registration of up to 120 days from arrival, for one phone, with a SIM in their own name. This is the '120-day rule' you may hear about, and it is not for local buyers. After the grace period, pay the tax or use the phone on Wi-Fi.
eSIM notes: iPhone 17 Air and US models
The iPhone 17 Air (sold by Apple as iPhone Air) is eSIM only in every country, so it never has a SIM tray. US units of the iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are also eSIM only. Units from other regions may have a physical SIM tray, so check the region before you order.
Jazz, Zong, Ufone and Telenor offer eSIM in Pakistan, usually at a franchise. An eSIM iPhone shows two IMEIs; register both if you use two lines. The PTA tax is the same as for a tray model.
How to check the exact tax and status
- Open dirbs.pta.gov.pk (Device Registration System) or dial *8484#
- Enter your passport or CNIC and both IMEIs (dial *#06#)
- DIRBS creates an FBR PSID with the exact amount, valid for 7 days
- If unpaid, it is deleted automatically, so checking commits you to nothing
- SMS the IMEI to 8484 to see if a phone is already registered
The Finance Act 2026-27 also added an installment option, with the full amount due within the same financial year (Pakistan Today, 24 June 2026). See how to register a mobile with PTA (How to Register Your Mobile with PTA (DIRBS Guide)).
iPhone 17 or iPhone 18: which costs less in tax?
The iPhone 17 series carries less tax than the new iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo, which were reported at about Rs 216,000 to Rs 272,000 on a passport in September 2026. If you plan to register, the iPhone 17 or 17 Pro can save a good amount in tax alone.
